Direct Moxibustion

If you're looking for the most basic form of moxibustion, you've come to the right place. Direct moxibustion involves placing aged moxa wool directly onto the patient's skin. The moxa is then lit up using a moxa stick, generally a thin moxa stick in the form of an incense candle. This form of moxibustion is popular in China and Japan and is known to warm the meridians more effectively than any other form of moxibustion.

Moxa wool or loose moxa is normally sold in bags of 100g as shown above.

Unless you're using an apparatus or device to hold the moxa while burning, Moxa wool generally needs to be rolled before they can be put to use. Watch a video demonstration below to see how this process is done.

Sometimes, moxa wool is rolled into a ball and placed on top of a piece of sliced ginger, known as fire dragon moxa. There are videos available to see on YouTube and you can learn more in this article here.
